A different sort of survey.

  • Post a comment

I decided just now that instead of doing the normal sort of surveys, I wanted to try something different.  I wasn't in a question of the day mood or a MySpace questionaire type mood, so I decided to hunt down the questions that James Lipton asks all the celebrities at the end of their interview on Inside the Actor's Studio.  I found the questions on Bravo's official site (well, most of them, and if any are missing, feel free to tell me).  Here they are, the questions and my answers.

What is your favorite word?

Firmament.  It has been since eighth grade, and I'm not entirely sure why,  It started out as a joke and evolved into a serious answer, I think.

What is your least favorite word?

Must, if that makes any sense.

What's your favorite curse word?

It's more a phrase: Jesus fucking Christ.  There's something very relieving about saying it, and that's probably mostly because I know people around me could get offended very easily if I used it.

What turns you on?

That moment when you're with someone and you both are completely on the same wavelength.  There's something spine-tingling about it.

What turns you off?

Depression, pure and simple.  Sometimes, being sad is fine, but that unending drag of being completely and utterly beaten down is just too much.

What sound do you love?

A perfect two-part harmony.  Three, four, or whatever higher number is also extremely awesome, but having two people perfectly in sync musically is beyond anything I can really describe.

What sound do you hate?

When my voice gets extremely whiny.  God, I can't stand it.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

I really want to be a member of a proper rock band.  Hopefully, that'll happen soon!

What profession would you not like to participate in?

Soldier.  I never want to be responsible for the taking of another life as a career.

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?

You don't have to worry anymore.

Getting sick of the voice posts yet?

Of course you aren't.  Well, if you are, I certainly haven't heard it!  But in any case, I have another one, so listen or avoid as per your usual standards.

I recorded this on Tuesday when I was exhausted but I couldn't sleep in the

The Life & Times of Moliere
The Life & Times of Moliere

morning.  It sounds like mostly gibberish to me right now, but you might be able to make some sense of it.  I'm listening it right now because I'm trying to remember if I was going to be posting a video or a song or something...but...no!  I remember!  Moliere, man, Moliere!  You should watch the video first because, if you haven't seen it, when I mention it, it's not going to make a bit of sense.  And, in any case, it's hilarious and educational.  So watch it.  That's a direct order.

Anyway, again, I cover a variety of subjects in this post, from voting to sleep-deprvation to the wonderful guiding powers of Ricky Martin.  And, of course, Moliere.  You must all love on the Moliere.

I just mentioned this to my best friend, but I was reading the latest issue of Rolling Stone, and they mentioned Vox very briefly.  If I remember correctly, they said that it was still in development and that it wouldn't be ready for the public until later this year.  Does that mean we're above the public?

A quick QotD.

Vox's QotD:

What was the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?

That one's easy. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.  I think I was just barely six at the time?  No, I was about to turn six.  Not too long after that, if I remember correctly, I saw Beauty and the Beast, which is still my favorite Disney movie to this day.

First, a question of the day (this is Vox's; mine are still on hiatus).

If you had a band, what would you call yourselves?

Well, I'm actually in a sort of informal band, but I'm keeping the name of that one to myself.  If I could name my own band, it would probably be something like The Nerdettes or Geek Chic.  Hmm, I like Geek Chic.

Franz Ferdinand - jackie jackson
Franz Ferdinand - jackie jackson

And I was going to try and upload a sound file, but it doesn't appear to be working for me at the moment, so maybe later.

Edit: It's only ten or fifteen minutes later, and I got the file to upload.  Next to my wonderful post here is "Jackie Jackson" by Franz Ferdinand.  I love it to pieces.  (Can you love a song to pieces?  Well, I guess I can.)  Yay Franz.

And now I'm stopping with the spam.

Well, it's been a little while, hasn't it?  Welcome to all the new Voxers in my neighborhood; I'm glad I'm not the only one tickled by this site.  A lot of people have said, "At least it's better than MySpace", and I definitely can't dispute that.  Still, LJ is and probably always will be first for me, but I'm sure that surprises no one.

It's time for another audio post!  This time, I actually came up with a small little intro for it, which amused me but probably won't really interest anyone else.  In this post, I talk about music (surprise surprise), how much I hate work, and how much I love libraries.  In other words, there's very little new here.  I like doing these, though.  I'm actually starting to hear how my voice really sounds because I get to listen to it on the computer.  Did you know your voice automatically sounds better to you because you hear it mainly echoed through bones in your head?  That's why a lot of people are irritated by a recording of their voice.  Isn't random trivia fun?

Muse - Apocalypse Please
Muse - Apocalypse Please

Also, in this post, I mention the fact that I've been listening to Muse somewhat over these past couple weeks, so I decided to upload my current favorite for you to hear, "Apocalypse Please".  I love how dramatic the music sounds; the beats in their songs are just amazing, and this song's piano combined with one of their beats is just irresistable to me.  Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

I've noticed that a lot of people have audio in their posts, but they actually have pictures to go along with it.  Does anyone know how to change it from the default picture on here?  I would rather see graphics of my own than the same little pink picture every single time.  Maybe I'm just weird, but it gets annoying.  If anyone could let me know, that'd be swell.

If you're wondering where the questions posts have gone, I decided to take a break for a few days on my Stupid Questions of the Day on GJ, and I don't feel like doing the Vox questions most of the time.  Today, on the other hand, is an exception because I want to share.

What is your current computer desktop image? Let's see it!

Ask, and thou shalt receive.  Here, in all its glory, is my current desktop:

Freedom forever
Freedom forever

Oh yeah.  One glorious day, V, when I have money, you and your DVD will be mine.

That isn't it for this post, though.  No, I'm giving you a mega post; there's the question I just answered, but there's also an audio post and a video, too!  Can you stand the media?  Let's hope so because this audio post is a big one.  It clocks in at just under eleven minutes long.  I ramble about watching videos, what nationality God would be if a deity could have nationality, and plug your ears now, because I even sing a little bit.  I don't even warm up or even try to hear how I'm sounding.  Yeesh.  If you can get through this one, you have stones, no doubt about it.

Ok-Go: a million ways
Ok-Go: a million ways

As for the video, as you'll know if you listen to the audio post, I'm putting up the "A Million Ways" video by OK Go.  Why?  Well, if you haven't seen it yet, then you need to, and that's a fact.  You probably won't even get what I'm talking about in the audio if you haven't seen this, so watch it.  I was going to link to their newest one, but not only did one of my neighbors do that already, but this is a must-see while that one's just a 'gee, that's cool' sort of deal.

Wow, this is quite the mega post, isn't it?  I think it's sort of cool looking, but maybe that's because I'm completely hyped up on sugary water right now.  As a matter of fact, that probably explains the audio and this whole post in general, doesn't it?  Woo!  Gotta love things that make you bounce off the walls.  (Of course, I have to be the only one who goes psycho on carbonated water.  Oh well.)

Edit: You know, while I'm at it, I'm going to add a couple more things, okay?

Noble Savage
Noble Savage

I don't know if you guys knew this, but the picture to the right of this statement is actually very special.  Why is that?  It links to the Amazon.com page where you can buy my mom's book.  She won a contest a little while back with a self-publishing company that allowed her to get some of these printed for free.  Isn't that cool?  I have an autographed copy on my bookshelf, of course.  If you'd like to purchase a copy (and doing so will probably mean I get to eat.  No, really, I think my mom would use the royalties to buy food), just click on it.  And if you do decide to buy it, let me know what you think!

Guitar test
Guitar test

Finally, I just recorded a test of me playing a couple chords on guitar to see how it would pick up on the microphone.  I don't think it sounded too great myself, which is really too bad, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.  I may do a test later to see how well my keyboard playing will pick up, but I don't want to do it now because, in order to do it so that the mic is close enough, I have to move the keyboard over to my computer and unplug the speakers.  Hassle much?  (Or maybe I'm just lazy.  Yeah, that could be it.

Okay, I really do think that's it for now.  I could probably keep adding to this entry for days, but I suppose it doesn't matter too much if I do or not considering the activity level's relatively low on here.  I mean, this is mostly for my own amusement, right?

I decided to skip the questions for today because I don't really feel like doing that whole bit today, but I'm not leaving you empty-handed: here's another audio post for you all!  As I mention in this nice little clip, people have been telling me that they have/are listening to these, and that's encouraging (or maybe you say it to shut me up?  I could see both).

Basically, I talk about my excitement about the impending release of V For Vendetta, my love for Franz Ferdinand (big shock there), and a couple real-life things.  (Don't worry, I'll give you angst warnings should there be a need for them, and there isn't a need this time around.)  Wacky fun, no?

Hello to all of the new Vox-ers out there.  I actually have some semblance of a neighborhood now, isn't that wacky?  It wasn't too long ago when it was just me and lalaranel.  There's also a couple of posts for me to read.  Huh.  It's probably a little weird that I'm excited about that.  Oh well, it's not like my life's that interesting anyway.

Only one question today.

  • Post a comment

Vox's 'who or what is your favorite product mascot?' question doesn't sound at all interesting to me, so I've decided to skip it.

My Stupid Question of the Day:

What's your favorite thing to do to recover from a bad day (or week/month/year/etc)?

Really, the best thing I can do is try to forget about it.  I pick up a book, I call someone, I play Doom until enough things are dead, you name it.  At the moment (because yes, I did have a bad day), I'm going to listen to music or watch a movie and read in bed.  There's nothing like assaulting myself with media.

Are you ready for some answers?

Vox's QotD:

If you could open any sort of restaurant, what would it be like?

I don't think I'd open a restaurant.  I like food and everything, but I don't like having to be all sanitary (well, to the level that restaurants require and cook food for people.

My Stupid Question of the Day:

Do you prefer walking or driving?

I think walking, sort of.  I don't like how tired/overheated I get when I walk, but I get all sorts of anxious whenever I'm in a vehicle of any kind, so walking is a little easier on me.

Yet another Q&A.

Vox's QotD:

Play any instrument or speak any language, which do you choose?

It's an excellent question.  I wish I'd come up with it.  Anyway, I decided upon instrument immediately.  While the prospect of being fluent in every language is definitely appealing, music is automatically universal, and people can like it and listen to it without understanding it.

My Stupid Question of the Day:

Who is your favorite historical figure?

I go through different phases.  Right now, and for the past couple years, it's been Oscar Wilde.  When I was little, I read about Marie Curie and Laura Ingalls Wilder a bit.  The reason I'm attached to Oscar Wilde right now is because he was just so goshdarned witty.  It's a rare thing to have such an easy way with words.
